Field Controls Engineer

BHS Robotics is seeking a Field Controls Engineer to join our growing team in our Hanover Park, IL facility!
Job Description:
The Field Controls Engineer is a critical business contributor, with responsibility for leading upgrade projects which involve replacement/modernization of system-wide controls platforms within our clients' corrugated machinery.
This includes conceptualization of new performance products, design of the controls system specific to each new project, testing and validation of hardware, and onside programming and start-up of the systems.
You will be a key part of an elite team responsible for the complete field retrofit projects.
Job
Responsibilities:
Install, program and startup drive and motor upgrades, especially in corrugated paper plants Lead the design, bill-of-material creation, program development, and runoffs Create documentation for and instruct users in the use of their new and upgraded equipment Thoroughly test equipment and processes for quality and completeness Provide occasional on-call emergency support to customers Perform maintenance tasks and inspections Troubleshoot and resolve issues remotely and onsite Support coworkers, including sales, electrical build, and mechanical build teams Ensure work is done safely and equipment conforms to safety standards Promptly submit accurate service and expense reports Keep current on industry and market trends, new technology, tools, and software.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and
Experience:
Has a technical degree or diploma in and electrical or controls related discipline.
Has two or more years of experience working with corrugator machinery, robotics, or general automation.
Has experience working with electrical, network, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
Ability to travel 50%-75% of the time.
Competencies:
Advanced skills with AutoCAD Electrical, Studio 5000, RSLogix, FactoryTalk View.
Advanced programming of Allen Bradley PowerFlex and/or other variable frequency drives.
Can read electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic schematics.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Works well both independently and as part of a team.
Is thorough and detail oriented.
Working knowledge of engineering practices including design for manufacturability, maintainability, reliability, safety, and machine shop practices.
Excellent organizational, time management and follow-up skills.
Physical Requirements:
The role of the Field Controls Engineer, while primarily an office-based position, does require the ability to engage in physical activities consistent with engineering environments.
This may include:
Has the ability to stand for up to 10 hours per day.
Regular walking, bending, and standing to support projects on the shop floor or site visits.
Ability to lift objects up to 50 pounds.
Manual dexterity for handling small components during design or review processes.
Visual acuity to accurately work on detailed drawings and to inspect equipment.
Occasional travel to project sites, which may require additional physical demands depending on the location.
Candidates should be capable of fulfilling these physical requirements with or without reasonable accommodations to carry out the essential functions of the role.
